Vroom!

My car's mileometer tripped over 100,000 miles last night. Obviously I'd known this moment was on the way, and given the time of year I had thought we'd be on a longish journey somewhere and had visions of pulling over for a celebratory snack or cup of coffee, maybe treat the car to a premium car wash or something. As it was I was just returning from the supermarket fairly late on, in response to an urgent hankering for some enchiladas.

  4. Merry Christmas Drew, hope it's nice and snowy for you.

Unlike, by the sound of it, many of our mutual blog friends I hardly ever touch a drop if I'm just in the house, if friends pop by I much prefer to go to the pub. In fact if I fancy a drink (or more likely, a fag) I'll take myself off to the pub with a newspaper. To be honest I don't even drink that much in London. I only really drink when I'm in the company of old friends, which normally means Sheffield. When I'm up there I tend to go out every night and my tolerance for booze seems undiminished by months of near abstinence.

  5. When my previous car turned over 100000 miles I thought something significant might happen, a shift in the fabric of the universe or something.

  6. I half expected the car to give out a groan. But no, it's been a very good car, some sporadic trouble with the exhaust otherwise no trouble, well, failed its MOT once, unexpectedly and most inconveniently. The plan is to keep it going until it's more expensive to repair than it is to buy a new car. I'm not a car person, it must be said.
